Sneaking outside during work
When work ignores time?

As the weights crashed down
The bolt swung freely above
Jostling my day’s stride

A few brief checkins
Pull me into their moments
Melting the distance

Watching siblings spar
This time through the TV screen
Leveled up to pro

As Sunday wraps up
The backyard whistles and chirps
Monday stays at bay

It was on, off, on
We each wanted some time out
Then spicy food laughed

Six months in, I ask
How many laws can he break
Before we break too

Orange moon dazzles
As July flees our rank air haze
Through the smoky sky

I defend my face
From cat claws through the blanket
Stonewalling my nap

Words fuel our steps
As we loop around the lake
Practiced for decades
