Pull ourselves from our boxes
It’s martini time

Twenty-six years in
Never more than a tussle
Our lives simply fit

My retired parents
On a Wednesday night phone call
Are far more awake

Try to tell the year’s story
In paltry glimpses

At vacation’s end
Gingerly step back to work
It feels quite unjust

Dark Dublin cab ride
Saved by layover cocktails
Sun-filled outdoor club

As evidence drips
The pedophile herds his court
Fear oozes from them

Excuse to miss work
And alone time with parents
Dad’s appointment run

The tire spews out air
Must have spied tomorrow’s plan
And chose cattiness

I flinch and pick my darlings
