Tilt-a-whirl giggles
At four, she’s a state fair pro
Thankful for visit

As the fair day waits
We soak up family time
Before the corn dogs

Family chatter
Under the patio lights
The week disappears

The cousins converge
And we eat, drink, and talk books
Under backyard lights

Another shooting
This time it’s kids down the street
Maybe it’s the guns

The quiet shows up
Even the vocal cat hushed
Last days spoke too much

Where is the red line?
When the crosschecks change the rules
Their acceptance dream

Did Sunday plan this?
Peppered the good with the bad
Heads down, I followed

As the summer fades
I tackle our ignored house
Luxurious time

Summer is walking
And snatching the college kids
I slow down and breathe
