It’s Hanukkah time
The young boy tells the story
The cat grabs a chair

A few kitchen tools
We used at my mom’s today
I learned to cook with

Simple mileage run
Went awry in Chicago
My flights from there do

Getting settled in
Without work and with free time
Mileage run, why not?

My grand plan for weeks:
At all points during this day
Be prepared for naps

Cats wrapped in blankets
As we drive by Christmas lights
They are captivated

The lists are checked off
We slide into traditions
And evolve them

We stole time for friends
From an overscheduled day
Holiday clock ticks

With college kids home
Their friends wander in and out
Perk of parenting
