We left our routine
And foraged for Dairy Queen
Summer’s heat kicks in

Turmoil around us
We center in a circle
Filled with friends and fam

Family dinners
Battle of staying power
Our cats dawdle, too

Wanted to retreat
But insanity flourished
That’s when the games start

Work waited, then pounced
Ignoring my Monday haze
My cat saved herself

Cats flop on the porch
We twist our paths to check in
Wish time could stand still

Rarely does it work
Sun and day of week align
I grabbed a lawn chair

Brisk July fifth night
A fire warms the patio
Note for future years

With the court’s daft takes
Our country’s independence
Seems like a relic

A two-Friday week
The first one could stop this arc
Could the next change course?
