Seven years of running done
Injuries and all

For forty years now
Malls eavesdropped on our chatter
Spiels change, cadence stays

Sneaking a date in
Not out, but we’re together
Grab on to us time

As the outside cools
We fight the cats for blankets
Can’t turn on heat yet

Kids eat kid movie
Followed by cooking ribs fumes
Hurls me from the kitchen

Global Entry wait
International Falls wins
Hmmm… but time off work

The boss escapes as
Work spews up manic toxins
I’m the doomed backup

Midway through the week
We write down our plan in hopes
Of a few checkmarks

Thick blankets return
As fall air eeks through the house
I’ll regret this joy

House Republicans
Trapped in their self-made vortex
Their jobs gather dust
