My hometown roads moved
Tracked down my past life knowing
Why I chose new roads

Friday sweeps messes
The dust and dirt from the week
Hide from the weekend

Not in the wedding
But in the backyard tonight
Adam screwed the pooch

It had to be said
“No shame in a math major”
Parental insight

Took work calls outside
With summer’s flaming breath gone
And now allergies?

“No fruit in the bars”
Cookbooks now sprawled with high hopes
Chocolate still wins

Two thirty PM
The cat left her night’s slumber
Then back in minutes

We switched up the day
Let the house stay neglected
While we lounged in time

Our weeks of silence
Then we chattered over drinks
Back to no daylight
